I would like to share a compelling story that underscores the importance of taking vitamins. This experience, which occurred during my youth on a picturesque Canadian lake, may not only entertain you but also provide valuable insights into the benefits of proper nutrition.

I received an invitation from a friend of my mother to accompany him on a trip, where my primary responsibility was to care for the children. Upon our arrival, we took a day to visit a nearby lake, where he had graciously invited his nephew to join us. I recall sitting on the beach, my favourite dark blue Laura Ashley skirt gently billowing around me as I attended to the children, brushing away the tiny biting insects that had settled on the napes of their necks.
The children joyfully swam and played in the lake while I observed from the shore. Although I was tempted to join them, I refrained from entering the water to preserve my hairstyle. During the time I spent supervising the children, my mother's friend acquired a speedboat. He invited me to join him and his nephew for a boat ride. However, I hesitated, as I was concerned about who would watch the children in my absence. Ultimately, he persuaded me to go on the boat ride.
I vividly recall the boat slicing through the water, racing across what appeared to be an immense, seemingly infinite lake. The water was darker and more turbulent than during my rowing training sessions. As I gazed out, I noticed land far to my left, while the expanse ahead remained unbroken and desolate.
He then halted the boat and inquired whether I would be interested in going inner tubing. For those familiar with aquatic activities, inner tubing involves either sitting in a large inflatable tube or gripping onto one as the boat tows you across the water.

He cast a small white life preserver into the water, where it floated serenely, its bright white contrasting against the dark, undulating surface. The gentle waves lapped at its edges, creating a tranquil scene. A cord securely connected the life preserver to the boat, ensuring it remained tethered and ready for use.
Although I was not dressed for swimming, I agreed to enter the water. As the boat accelerated, it became increasingly difficult to maintain my grip on the life preserver. The vessel began to create large waves on either side, forming a distinct "V" shape. When I encountered one of those waves, I was propelled into the air.
I cannot accurately determine the speed of the boat or the distance I was propelled through the air. However, I do recall that during that time, I enjoyed having acrylic nails applied at upscale boutiques in Calgary. Unfortunately, the impact of my body hitting the water resulted in the loss of most of my nails. On a related note, I would like to emphasize that taking vitamins can significantly contribute to the growth of strong, healthy natural nails.

I vividly recall the sensation of floating, my body relaxed and weightless in the inky black water. The cold waves began to rise, gently pulling me deeper into the vastness of that dark expanse. The water was so opaque that I could not see my own feet beneath the surface.
As I gaze out at the expansive fields of crops in Manitoba, swaying like waves in the breeze, I often contemplate the immense size of that lake—perhaps four sections, or even eight or nine. In the distance, there were no houses or signs of civilization to be seen, only the endless stretch of water and the horizon.
As I felt myself drifting into a state of drowsiness, something substantial began to emerge from the depths beneath where my feet should have been. Its scales glimmered in the sunlight, catching my attention and drawing me into a moment of unexpected terror.

There are two important aspects of my character that I would like to share. First and foremost, I have a profound fear of sharks, a phobia that originated from watching the film "Jaws" during my childhood. This fear is so intense that I avoid entering the ocean altogether, regardless of how inviting a yacht may appear.
My fascination with marine life led me to study hammerhead sharks extensively, observing their amazing ability to navigate in large groups through the water. However, I am acutely aware of the risks associated with swimming in shark-infested waters; the chances of survival in such situations can be alarmingly low.
This fear resonates with a broader theme of vulnerability, akin to children who are cast out from their communities without essential life skills, support systems, or financial resources.
There is something frighteningly mesmerizing about about a shark's eyes. They possess an inscrutable quality that defies reason. This gaze is reminiscent of the intense stare of an alligator or a large snake, both of which observe their surroundings with a silent, predatory focus.
When you are food, you are food.

This brings to mind another observation regarding the significance of eyes. During my travels across this magnificent planet, I often find myself drawn to small towns, where I enjoy immersing myself in the local culture. I appreciate the warmth of the community, and I find comfort in the fact that I can engage with others without the need for designer attire to fit in.
During my travels, I have encountered a diverse array of fascinating individuals. Many are drawn to me, not only because I tend to speak less, but also due to my willingness to assist others. Over time, I have come to recognize that my quiet demeanour and helpful nature may lead some to mistakenly perceive me as mentally slow. While I find this notion somewhat amusing in retrospect, I now understand the potential risks associated with such misinterpretations. This realization has prompted me to reflect on the importance of clear communication and the impact of first impressions in our interactions with others.
After several years of travel, I yearned for a period of stability and the opportunity to embrace a more conventional lifestyle. I sought to cultivate a garden and refine my homemaking skills. Consequently, I made the decision to relocate to a small town for a few months, allowing myself the chance to experience the tranquility and simplicity of everyday life.

One day, a kindly woman who bore a striking resemblance to Rose Nylund arrived at my country house. I welcomed her inside, assuming she was a representative of the local welcome wagon. However, it soon became clear that she was not quite the Rose Nylund I had envisioned.
Her conversations weren’t about her hometown of St. Olaf, Minnesota. She shared stories of experiences I had never encountered and had no desire to encounter. It felt as though I were living in a Stephen King novel. She said, "I like when people look into my eyes when I am talking to them." As a newcomer to the town, I found myself hesitantly meeting her gaze.
As she spoke, her gaze remained fixed on me, probing for any hint of my emotions. Her eyes, with pupils as small as pinpricks, were as cold and unyielding as ultramarine steel. I had encountered such eyes before—those of a deep-sea shark, emerging suddenly from the murky depths. They appeared lifeless yet were wide, wild, and frenzied, exuding a primal energy.
Razor-sharp teeth glinting menacingly, its mouth slightly ajar as it tasted the water, ever vigilant in its hunt. Those eyes that seemed to pin me down, the entire head of the water beast swaying slowly, tracking my every movement, attuned to the rhythm of my heartbeat. In that moment, it felt as though I was one with the apex hunter, its mouth slightly open, eyes devoid of empathy, seeking out my fear in the icy depths of the water.
I tried to refrain from making eye contact with her, concerned that she might perceive the profound thoughts swirling in my mind. Our gazes met, creating an immediate and profound connection.
Rose 2.0 began to convey to me, in essence, that I was now under her guidance and that a new chapter of my life was about to unfold. I sat there, maintaining a stoic demeanour, as I listened intently to her words. However, my mind began to drift into a contemplative haze. Vivid images reminiscent of "The Shawshank Redemption" flashed through my thoughts as she spoke. Gradually, I allowed my gaze to shift beyond her shoulder, taking in the expansive fields that stretched out behind the glass window. I noticed the absence of bars, leading me to ponder: this was not a prison, or was it?
As the weeks turned into months, I maintained a stoic demeanour. This situation created a profound sense of cognitive dissonance within me. As a child, I cherished "The Golden Girls," and here I was confronted by a woman who bore a striking resemblance to Betty White.
As she condescendingly outlined the consequences of my potential choices, my thoughts began to drift to the myriad of intimidating individuals I have encountered throughout my life. I reflected on the various situations I had navigated and the precarious circumstances from which I had managed to extricate myself.
I could hear her voice faintly in the background, and my thoughts drifted back to Rose. She had been outlining the consequences if I failed to adhere to her rules. As I observed her, it became clear that she was serious. I had endured too many challenges in my life to become subservient to Rose Nylund. I was resolute in my decision.
For the first time, I allowed my dark, almost black eyes to meet her steady blue gaze. I observed her demeanor wither and dissipate like dust in the wind. This reaction is not uncommon when individuals are confronted by one of God's unmasked warriors. This was a technique I had learned from my male friends around the world: chin up, eyes unblinking and unflinching. I then conveyed to her that I was aware of the truth. Later, when she called again, I approached the conversation with the kindness my friend's mother had advised me to employ when faced with persistent individuals during my childhood. I calmly informed her that I was a busy person and did not have the time to form new friendships at that moment.
One can only imagine her astonishment and the ensuing consequences that arose from my response. I noticed that Rose was taken aback; it was evident that she possessed knowledge I did not. My response had clearly caught her off guard. It became apparent that she was unable to decipher my thoughts or feelings and had been putting on a façade. I began to question the nature of reality. "Little House on the Prairie" wasn't real. What was Rose referring to, and who was the subject of her discussion? Due to my stoic demeanour, she may have assumed that I either concurred with her perspective or that I was unable to engage mentally.
In the country, rumours spread rapidly. I often found myself in conversations where individuals referenced topics I was completely unfamiliar with. Rose 2.0 was attempting to embody my persona, or perhaps the version of me she had come to know through hearsay.
With this in mind, I returned to my passions: baking, gardening, and studying the teachings of Sun Tzu.
To this day, I remain uncertain about her identity or the information she may have shared with my neighbours regarding me. I never encountered Rose again, and I have come to realize that this is for the best.

I grew up in a relatively isolated environment, which limited my exposure to the customs, languages, cultures, and behaviours of the outside world. As a result, I often found it challenging to comprehend the conversations and interactions around me. This lack of understanding fostered a deep-seated kindness and a desire to be helpful to everyone I encountered.
I once believed that the idyllic lives portrayed in "Little House on the Prairie" and "The Brady Bunch" were reflective of reality. I thought that misfortunes were confined to the world of film. When faced with unkindness from others, I assumed it was a result of my own shortcomings and that I simply needed to be more amiable. When I learned some of the truth I cried.
Throughout my life, I have held a particular perspective, one that began to shift a few years ago when I started to explore the reasons behind human suffering. With determination and effort, I have consistently achieved my goals and desires. Success becomes attainable when I commit to putting in the necessary work. For a long time, I believed my purpose was to bring happiness to others and to help them recognize the importance of kindness. This realization has prompted me to reflect deeply on the complexities of human experience and the role we play in each other's lives.
I have a deep appreciation for individuals from rural backgrounds, often referred to as "country people." For those of you who reside in urban areas, having just one reliable friend from the countryside can significantly enhance your chances of navigating life's challenges. My research suggests that your likelihood of overcoming various obstacles can increase from 18% to an impressive 81%, depending on the skills and resourcefulness of your country friend. Furthermore, if you are fortunate enough to have two such friends, you may find yourself navigating life with greater ease and joy.
Rural communities often possess a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that is frequently overlooked. Contrary to the stereotypes perpetuated in popular media, individuals from these areas are not only intelligent but also prioritize healthy eating. My friends from the countryside exemplify this understanding.
In urban environments, we often lack awareness of the origins of our food, including the agricultural practices involved and the potential chemicals used in its production. We may not know how long certain items have been on the shelf or whether they retain their natural colour. The adage "you are what you eat" holds significant truth.

I recall a pivotal moment in my education when Lisa K, a friend with a free-spirited approach, introduced me to the concept of preservatives during junior high. Her influence extended beyond the classroom; she later took me to my first rave club, where the pulsating techno music would pause at the end of the night for a final, soulful rendition of Bob Marley's "Could You Be Loved." This experience highlighted the connection between music, culture, and the appreciation of authenticity—values that resonate deeply in both rural and urban settings.
A nutritious diet is essential for the cognitive development of individuals in rural communities, as it provides vital vitamins that enhance critical thinking skills. Whenever I felt the urge to stop, my sides aching from exertion, my coach would calmly encourage me with the words, “swim it out.” Inspired by his support, I would continue to push myself further.
At that time I had never shared that I was a champion swimmer in my past life. Talking about yourself is rude, unless you're blogging experiences. However, as I witnessed a massive swath of scales rising from the depths, I was immediately reminded of the film "Jaws." An adrenaline rush surged through my veins, and instinctively, I began to scream. I found myself caught in a moment of sheer panic, treading water with all my strength.
It is my fear fueled misconception that sharks inhabit the Great Lakes of Canada; however, this is not the case. What I experienced was a curious encounter with fish that approached me, likely intrigued by my presence. The flowing fabric of my Laura Ashley skirt, drifting in the water, may have resembled fins to them. Each time a giant fish swam past, brushing its scaled body against mine, I couldn't help but scream, a surge of adrenaline coursing through my limbs, heart, and mind. In that moment, I found myself searching the horizon for the boat, but it was nowhere in sight.
The fish and my swim coach played a crucial role in saving my life. At last, the boat reemerged, drifting a few meters away, with two men on board staring at me in disbelief.
Their expressions reflected shock, and I could understand why. My hair was tangled in the waves, and a mixture of lake water and mucus streamed from my nose. As I treaded water, I raised my arm, despite the pain of my broken nails. With a smile, I called out to them, “I’m okay!”
They stood there, staring with their mouths agape. Then, the nephew spoke to my mother's friend, his tone almost tinged with anger. They were too far away for me to catch the words they exchanged. Suddenly, the nephew quickly tossed me the life preserver.
Accidents can occur unexpectedly, especially when engaging in water activities. While five to thirty minutes may seem like a brief moment, it can represent a lifetime for someone who cannot swim or lacks the strength to stay afloat in turbulent waves.

That's why it's essential to take your vitamins. Whether you are an adventurer or a fan of extreme sports, you never know when you might find yourself treading water or swimming for miles. You may need to hike out of a remote location, navigating through sun, wind, or snow, or even running long distances. Strong foot muscles are crucial for these activities.
It's important to remember that wild animals do not see a kind person; they see potential prey. They can also detect health and vitality. In my experiences in the backcountry, I have had to fend off a large group of feral dogs by becoming the alpha dog. Yes, growling and baring teeth. When confronted by dogs, do not run; avoid letting one get behind you, and be prepared to defend yourself if necessary. Dogs can sense both health and fear.
Taking your vitamins is a proactive step toward ensuring your well-being. As an adventurer, maintaining your health significantly increases your chances of survival in challenging situations. Prioritize your health and equip yourself for the unexpected.
In certain situations, you may find yourself needing to hike down a mountain without any assistance in sight. In a worst-case scenario, you might have to rely on the moonlight to guide you through the woods. It is crucial to avoid running in complete darkness, as this can lead to dangerous missteps. However, ensuring adequate intake of vitamin A can enhance your night vision, helping you navigate safely and avoid hazards, such as cliffs, on your adventure back to civilization.
How did I arrive at this point in my life? It all began when my aunt gifted us children a subscription to National Geographic. The Earth is a fascinating and vibrant world of life, especially when one embraces the importance of health and well-being. Are you entertained? I sincerely hope so.
